Fred Mullett is coming!

We are excited to tell you that Fred Mullett will be coming to our store to teach three of his very popular workshops!

Member of the Nature Printing Society, arts educator, Master Mixologist (capitalized only for effect), ex-part-time actor, and owner of at least one rubber stamp company, Fred B. Mullett will be here at White Swan Rubber Stamps on Saturday, September 25th and Sunday, September 26th, 2010.

A Bio (of sorts)

Conceived and brought forth sometime in the waning years of the Truman administration, Fred B. Mullett spent much of his formative years bouncing between his familial home in Kansas City, and various venues, such as Wisconsin, Arkansas, the hinterlands of Kansas and Missouri, and the mountains of Colorado. His traipsing about finally landed him in Seattle, WA. He lived there from 1983 to 2009, but has since returned to the Midwest.

After becoming enchanted by the art of nature printing - and especially Gyotaku (fish printing), Fred started his first rubber stamp company ("Fred B. Mullett, Stamps From Nature Prints") in 1993. It was intended as a part-time endeavor while attending the University of Washington/School of Fine Art for his second degree. One thing led to another, and in 1997 all other employment, recreational and educational activities were put on hold in order to concentrate on the business of being in business. He still finds time, however, to ponder both the big and little questions of it all, and break out the toys in order to make really big paintings about nothing in particular.

The particulars:

  • Samples are only indicative of class exercises. Specifics and results will vary. More examples using techniques from these classes may be seen at Fred Mullett
  • Each class is $53 and may be paid for by cash, credit card, debit card, or check. If you pay by cash or check, you will receive a $3.00 store credit for each class that you may spend the day of the class.
  • Class participants receive a 10% discount on supplies purchased the day of their class.
  • People who are on Fred's mailing list already know that he is going to be here and are anxiously waiting for us to open the registrations up, so don't wait too long to sign up as our seating is limited. Call 208-887-1789 to reserve your spots.
  • Class fees need to be paid at time of signing up and there are no refunds if you are unable to attend. You may, however, send someone in your place if you let us know.
  • We will mail out class information well before the classes are held to those people who sign up.

"Fred B. and his Dancing Rubber Fish"
Advanced Embossing Techniques
Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010
9:00
am to 1:00 pm
$53

Expanding the methods of multi-color printing with multi-color embossing and watercolor
additions, this class is geared toward the experienced student, though could be
considered a "sink or swim" lesson for beginners. (There will also be a short demonstration on how to make colored transparent powders using alcohol inks.)

Runs 3½ to 4 hours.
$53.00 per student, includes handouts and instructor-provided supplies.

Max - 12 students.

"Spritz Me, Baby...Mo' Bettah!"

Diffused Watercolor Effects
Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010
2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
$53

Finding merit in the "less is more" concept and the power of imprecision, this class
focuses on the soluble properties of markers and other water-based media to achieve
watercolor effects using rubber stamps. Bleaching out imagery on black paper, then
re-introducing color with high contrast accents is also tackled to achieve startling
effects.

Runs 3½ to 4 hours.

$53.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies.

Raincoats are optional. (Just kidding!)

Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials.

Max - 12 students.

Chlorine bleach is used in this class. Due to the caustic nature of this chemical,
students are STRONGLY warned of the hazards! Suggested safety materials may include
- but are not limited to - latex gloves, a work apron, and eye protection. Remember
to take care, and to look out for those around you and their property, and the property
of the sponsoring institution for this class.

"The Elegant Mess"

Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010
9:00 am to 1:00 pm

$53

A veritable food fight of a class! Where the spontaneous meets the specific. Where
the positive meets the negative. And where leftovers go to play. We will fiddle
around with principles of figure/ground relationship as we integrate sprayed color
washes and splattered paint, collage, stencils, and stamps on Oriental and watercolor
paper with remarkable results. Suitable for small or large format work, this visual
play time will add miles to artistic efforts!

Runs 3½ to 4 hours.

$53.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies.

Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials.

Max - 12 students.

Call White Swan at 208-887-1789 or come into the store to register.

Class sizes are limited, so reserve your space soon.

You will receive a Class Supply List email before the class.

Taking a class is a wonderful way to meet other stampers and get your creative juices flowing!
